Strategies for Resto Druid Healing in WoW

January 7th, 2012

As a Druid, you have access to some very unique mechanics, and Resto Druid Healing is no different. At earlier levels it is very easy to heal your way through dungeons. However, once you get into the higher end content, things get much more difficult. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you will have a very unhappy group, and you can end up wasting a lot of time wiping while you try to figure out how to heal. Read on, and you will learn some surefire strategies to ensure that you are keeping your raid happy and healthy.

Resto Druid Healing for Tanks

First off, you need to keep 3 Lifebloom stacks on the tank at all times. This should be done before he even pulls. If you notice the tank’s health going down faster than Lifebloom is restoring it, use Rejuvenation as well. Use Nourish to fill up any remaining damage, and use Regrowth when Clear Casting is up. If he takes spikes of damage, use Swiftmend, Healing Touch, or a Nature’s Swiftness/HT combo. Well geared tanks should be no problem for Resto Druid Healing, but undergeared tanks in heroics may require some more attention and intense healing.

Resto Druid Healing for Groups

Keeping the tank up is easy. It’s when the group starts taking heavy damage that things get difficult. Rejuvenation and Wild Growth are your primary methods of healing the group. Regrowth should be used whenever anyone goes below 50% health. Swiftmend is also great for Melee DPS since the Efflorescence effect is an AoE heal that will benefit the tank as well. You honestly shouldn’t use Nourish or Healing Touch on them most of the time because they are slow casting and by the time you get that spell off, the tank will have taken some heavy damage. It takes some close monitoring to keep up the group and the tank. However between these spells, you should be able to keep your group up with no issues. I will note, however, that no amount of Resto Druid healing is a substitute for DPS that stays in damage zones or Tanks that just can’t hold aggro.

Emergency situations in Resto Druid Healing

There will be times when you just don’t know what to do because everyone is taking massive damage. Don’t forget that we have some amazing cooldown abilities. Tranquility is one such spell that does massive healing for a short amount of time. Tree of Life is another important Cooldown for us that can mean the difference between a wipe and a win. With this spell, many of your Resto Druid Healing abilities are altered. For example, Wild Growth heals an extra party member; great for raids, means nothing in 5-mans. Lifebloom can be cast on more than 1 target, and regrowth is instant. These last two are going to be your lifesavers. First, putting Lifebloom on every party member will substantially increase your healing done. Also, more Lifebloom ticks means more (almost constant) Clearcasting procs. This makes your instant Regrowth free as well making for some excellent massive healing when you need it most. » Read more: Strategies for Resto Druid Healing in WoW

A Guide to Resto Druid Healing Spells – Unlock the Power of Your Resto Druid

January 1st, 2012

Since World of Warcraft was released, the Druid was primarily a healing class, and over time there have been many changes to the way Resto Druid Healing works. Also, healers are one of the most desired roles, so it helps to know this valuable Druid skill. Read on, and you will learn some key factors to maximize the power of the Restoration Druid.

Heal over Time Spells you will use for Resto Druid Healing:

These are the bread and butter of your rotations and you should always have several of these up.

A Druid’s healing is based around heal over time spells. This makes the Druid more of a Pro-active healer than a RE-active healer. This is a very important concept, and it requires you to anticipate damage, rather than to respond to it.

Lifebloom is probably your most important healing spell. This should always be on the tank at 3 stacks. This spell also causes Replenishment, a vital mana regen tool. You should always have this buff up. This is vital for a Resto Druid Healing strategy.

Rejuvenation is excellent for spot healing the group. With a reduced Global cooldown, you can throw several Rejuvenation’s out to your party to keep them topped off throughout fights.

Wild Growth is a group HoT and should be used whenever 3 or more party members are taking damage. It is mana intensive, but is cheaper than 3 Rejuvenation casts. This will almost always be up during raids.

Direct Healing Spells for Resto Druid Healing

These spells are great for damage spikes, but are also important for our mastery talent, Harmony. They also automatically refresh Lifebloom on the current target. They are not to be overlooked.

Nourish is a small, slow, but very mana efficient heal. This should be used for spot healing, or to top off tank health. This is one of your primary spells for Resto Druid Healing.

Regrowth is a combination of a direct heal and a HoT spell. This spell is very mana intensive and should only be used when you have clearcasting up, or when someone is at very low health (under 40%).

Healing Touch is a very big direct heal, but it is also mana intensive as well. This should not be thrown out unless your party members are taking large damage spikes.

Swiftmend is an instant cast heal that consumes a Rejuvenation or Regrowth to instantly heal the target for the full value of the spell it consumes. It also causes the Efflorescence effect which puts an AoE HoT on the ground surrounding the Swiftmend Target. This is best used for healing spikes of damage. Swiftmend does NOT cause Harmony or refresh Lifebloom.

Emergency Spells for Resto Druid Healing

Other spells you want to keep in mind would be Tranquility, a massive AoE heal that hits everyone in your raid and party. Use this when everyone is taking massive damage.

Tree of Life form is also a very valuable Resto Druid Healing mechanic. It alters your core spells, reduces mana cost, and increases healing done. Use this when you expect a lot of damage to start hitting your group. » Read more: A Guide to Resto Druid Healing Spells – Unlock the Power of Your Resto Druid
