Airplane Landing Games – How To Land Your Online Airplane Safely

December 21st, 2011

Airplane landing games and online flight simulators are a great way of experiencing the thrill of being a pilot. Games developers have made a real effort to produce airplane landing games and flight simulators to be as close to reality as possible in terms of how the online plane flies and lands. Some online flight simulators are so well modelled on the real thing that some people training to be pilots actually use them when they are away from their flying lessons.

I am a keen flight simulator games player and a lot of people who play online with me have trouble in landing their airplane. Here I show how you can land your airplane safely in an online game and this method is no different to what trainee pilots are taught in real life.

Landing an online airplane like landing a real airplane as many qualified pilots would say is the most difficult part of flight. The landing procedure starts many miles away from the airport and should not be done too late and must be done in a sequential manner. You should not start the landing sequence to the last moment as some online pilots mistakenly do.

Landing an airplane can be summarised as a two stage process. The first stage is the approach to landing and the second stage is the landing itself. The landing will only be good and you will score more highly in your game if the approach is good.

During the approach phase you should slow your online plane from cruising speed to an approach speed from which you can further descend gently to a landing speed. Your aim should be to allow the airplane to contact the runway with the lowest possible vertical and horizontal speed.

In order to reach these low speeds you will need to reduce engine power during your approach. However, just reducing engine power will not be enough to slow the airplane to your target speed. You will need to make additional changes to the shape of the airplane at specific points in the approach so that drag will slow the airplane even further. These include gradually raising flaps and later on in the sequence extending the landing gear.

In addition to speed changes you should also set up your airplane so that it touches the destination runway at a precise point. Moments before the actual landing stage itself when the airplane is about to touchdown you should raise your nose up so that it will be the main landing wheels that will contact the runway first. Once the main wheels touches the ground the nose will simply drop down naturally and all wheels will then be in contact with the runway. » Read more: Airplane Landing Games – How To Land Your Online Airplane Safely
